PAC Speaker -- Candice Hoyes

PAC is bringing bring speaker activist and jazz artist Candice Hoyes. Hoyes is poised to “shape the artist-cum-activist role” (NPR), distinguished for her ranging vocalism, curation and scholarship. Candice offers an interactive experience for client audiences using jazz as a lens for understanding transformative community and identity. A Harvard, Columbia Law and TED alum, Candice has curated performance lecture series since 2017 for CUNY Arts and Jazz at Lincoln Center in which she integrated jazz discourse to explore topics pulled from their curriculum as well as sociopolitical issues of our day. Sharing the context of historic artists and the social resonance of their songs, Candice illustrates how Black music has shaped cultural and political organizing and advanced contemporary visions of healing justice. As a thought leader, Candice has spoken at TED, Google Talks, Jazz at Lincoln Center/CUNY for the past three seasons, as well as at international universities and corporations. Recently, Candice has won the 2021 NYC Creative Arts Grant, 2021 Woodshed Network Grant for Women in Jazz and a 2020 NYC Women’s Fund Grant in Music.
