2026-27 bell hooks Pedagogy Reading Group
This year’s reading group is centered on bell hooks’ writing on pedagogy. If you’re not familiar with bell hooks, read a brief biography here, check out this brief intro to her work here, and read this wonderful tribute to hooks following her death in 2021 here. The three books we’ll read are:
1. bell hooks, Teaching to Transgress: Education as the Practice of Freedom, Routledge, 1995. Click here for access to the ebook in our library.
2. bell hooks, Teaching Community: A Pedagogy of Hope, Routledge, 2003. Click here for the listing in Catalyst and here for a digital book.
3. bell hooks, Teaching Critical Thinking: Practical Wisdom, Routledge, 2010. Click here for access to the ebook in our library.
We will meet three times each semester for discussions over a shared meal, snacks, and/or drinks. I will work with all interested people to find meeting times that work with your schedule! If you’d like to take part in any way, please express your interest by filling out this form.
