“In 1968 at San Francisco State University, a diverse student coalition formed to question why the contributions and histories of communities of color were absent from the curriculum. Beyond seeking celebration, these students wanted education in social justice and sought to take back their institution. Their ground-making leadership led to the formation of Ethnic Studies and paved the way for generations of students who have since inherited and benefitted from the rich interdisciplinary traditions. What is the history of student voicing and visioning, and how might it help inform out current roles as student leaders?
