Grose Family LGBTQIA+ Lecture Series

The Third Annual Grose Family LGBTQIA+ Lecture Series  is scheduled for October 8-9, 2024 as part of the celebration of LGBTQIA+ History Month. This year’s theme will focus on The State of LGBTQIA+ Peoples’ Participation in Sports. RSVP HERE

Over the last two decades we have seen  greater visibility from queer people demanding their right to participate in various sports  whether track and field, basketball,  volleyball, powerlifting,  etc. While not every queer athlete has been successful in their demands- through their actions -the public discourse has become louder and we simply cannot ignore them.

Here at St. Olaf- the Grose Lecture focused on this topic is timely. We have an opportunity to look at our own institution and see how we are doing in making this place welcoming and inviting for all our students including our queer athletes.  I look forward to a robust conversation although nationally the state of LGBTQIA+ people’s participation might not look as bright.

We are thrilled to welcome back to The Hill- Katie Barnes who is doing great journalism work focused on the interaction of sports and gender.

The Annual Grose Lecture is the Taylor Center’s signature LGBTQIA+ event annually which focuses on LGBTQIA+ public policy and brings to campus a noted and outstanding LGBTQIA+ individual to give a keynote address during LGBTQIA+ History month in October.

The Lecture aims to amplify the voices of LGBTQIA+ students and the community bringing attention to public policies and issues that affect this community with careful attention to the issues faced by the transgender community.
