Latin American Studies Study Abroad Advising Sheet

St. Olaf’s Pre-Approved Study Abroad Programs
St. Olaf students may apply courses from four pre-approved study abroad programs to their majors:

the CIEE Programs in Seville, Spain;
-
the ACM Programs in San José, Costa Rica;
-
the HECUA Programs in Ecuador; and
-
the Augsburg Program in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.
The following courses have been approved as Latin American Studies major and/or Latin American/ Latino Studies concentration courses. A maximum of 3 study abroad courses from Spain and/or Latin America (courses not taught by St. Olaf faculty) can be applied toward the 8-course major (LS); a maximum of 2 study abroad courses can be applied toward the concentration (LA/L). In planning your courses, remember that no more than 2 courses in any one discipline can count toward the major. If you have questions, please consult with the Director of Latin American Studies.
In addition, some GE credits may be available from courses offered on these programs. Please consult the appropriate Program Adviser for information on GE credits.
CIEE PROGRAMS IN SEVILLE (FALL AND/OR SPRING SEMESTER, SPAIN) – Maximum of 3 credits available for HS major.
Spanish Language or Literature Courses |
May count 1 course as one of the 2 required Spanish courses for the LS major. |
A variety of electives are available in fields such as Archeology, Art History, Economics, History, Sociology, and Political Science. |
May count up to a maximum of 3 courses (2 if also counting a Spanish course) focusing on Spain and/or Latin America for LS major; a maximum of 2 courses focusing on Latin America for LA/L concentration. |

ACM – STUDIES IN LATIN AMERICAN CULTURE AND SOCIETY

Credits earned under this program will still count for students who have completed the program by June 2004, according to the information below. – Maximum of 3 credits available for LS major.
