Library Equipment in Action with Ole Tiny Dorm 

The student-led production Ole Tiny Dorm is a brilliant showcase of what happens when student talent meets library resources.The entire production — including the cameras, studio lighting, and audio gear — is sourced exclusively from the library’s equipment checkout collection. 

We are incredibly proud to see these resources being used to create high-quality recordings that showcase St. Olaf’s talented musicians (which include several of our circulation desk student workers!). New performances can be viewed on the Ole Tiny Dorm YouTube channel.

Feeling creative? Staff and faculty can reserve audio/video equipment and other specialized technology at Rolvaag Library.

Inside Higher Ed

The library provides institutional access to Inside Higher Ed, which is transitioning to a subscription model starting in April. In order to read articles on the Inside Higher Ed website after April 23, you will need to create a user account on the website using your St. Olaf email address. 

Public St. Olaf Mapping Gallery: Share Your Work with the Community!

We are in the process of creating a public gallery of StoryMap and mapping projects created at St. Olaf. This gallery will be hosted on the St. Olaf ArcGIS Online organization site (and eventually on the Library and IT website). Anyone in the St. Olaf community, including students, faculty, and staff, are welcome to donate a project. If you are interested in donating your project to the gallery, check out this FAQ page for submission details!

Reading Day Cookie Volunteers

We are looking for staff and faculty volunteers who would be interested in passing out cookies and fruit snacks to students in the library on Reading Day, Thursday, May 14, from 2–3 p.m. If you are interested, please contact the LITS Events team at LITSEvents@stolaf.edu.

Wall Street Journal and New York Times

Did you know the library provides access to the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times for all students, faculty, and staff? You can sign up via the Online Access to Current Newspapers guide for access to both publications.

Buying an iPad with your IPAT

Faculty members with tenure, tenure-track, or special appointments (excluding those who possess professional development support as the holder of a named professorship) will be granted up to $1,500 each fiscal year (June 1–May 31) for professional development support, including scholarship or creative activity needs. Those funds can be used to purchase an iPad or tablet if you work through IT. Please contact Projects Specialist Shelbie Pleskonko (plesko1@stolaf.edu) or the IT Helpdesk for assistance selecting and purchasing the appropriate device for your needs. Please note that your iPAT cannot be used to purchase any other hardware or software. More information about your iPAT account can be found on the iPAT information page..

Leganto (formerly Library Link)

Leganto (formerly Library Link) is a web-based tool that allows faculty to build course reading lists for students by integrating library resources directly into course materials. It is ideal for organizing course readings, videos, and other content without the extra bells and whistles of online quizzes, discussions, gradebooks, etc. It also lets students collaboratively annotate PDFs. Faculty who have requested reserves materials for this semester have most likely already seen the Leganto interface in the form of reading list links. You can learn more on the Leganto guide. Computer Care

We have been experiencing an increase in St. Olaf–owned laptop repairs due to liquid spills. To avoid extra costs incurred by St. Olaf and disruptions to your workday, IT recommends intentionally organizing your work space, creating a clear boundary between electronics and liquid hazards. By establishing a dedicated “No Liquid Zone,” laptops, smartphones, and iPads will be safe from spills. Even little splashes can short circuit components, corrode contacts, and lead to device failure. Other methods to avoid spills involve using spill-proof containers, or investing/using separate side tables for your drinks. As a reminder, please do not put stickers on St. Olaf–owned laptops.
