The Lutheran Center is offering two spring 2021 events aimed at exploring and expanding on our notions of vocation to include interfaith and ecological perspectives! Interfaith Perspectives on Vocation invites students to hear from alumni as they reflect on their vocational discernment and the role that their faiths/religious traditions/core commitments have played in that process. Recasting Vocation in a New Planetary Era offers a panel of scholars and practitioners reflecting on the reflecting on the intersections of Lutheran identity and institutional ecological vocation in light of climate change.

Interfaith Perspectives on Vocation (for students)
Thursday, April 15 from 6pm-7:30pm
Students are invited to hear from a panel of alumni as they offer insight, inspiration, and practical advice on vocational discernment. Alumni will be sharing the role their faiths/religious traditions/core commitments have played in their vocational discernment and how those aspects of their identity impacted their course of study at St. Olaf as well as their career paths since graduation. Co-sponsored by the Lutheran Center and the Piper Center.

Recasting Vocation in a New Planetary Era

Building upon Assistant Professor of Religion and Environmental Studies Kiara Jorgenson’s Ecology of Vocation: Recasting Calling in a New Planetary Era (Fortress/Lexington Press, 2020), this event will feature a panel of scholars and practitioners reflecting on the intersections of Lutheran identity and institutional ecological vocation amid the losses and pressures of climate change.
