An artist in development
One of the reasons Steven Garcia ‘20 was drawn to St. Olaf College was because of its thriving arts community. As a trumpet performance major, Garcia has taken advantage of incredible opportunities to perform on campus, in the Twin Cities, and around the world — both as a freelance musician and as part of the highly regarded St. Olaf music ensembles.
A St. Olaf experience has also enabled Garcia to grow creatively beyond music. After arriving on campus with an interest in photography, he found classes that developed his technique, plus a community of other talented artists eager to collaborate. Garcia’s burgeoning interest in photography has since grown into a passion that he now considers part of his identity.
Garcia is currently president of the Arts Collaboration House, which hosts events and collaborates on artistic work. “We’ve been able to create experiences that I haven’t found anywhere else,” says Garcia.
