McDonald reaches 500th victory with St. Olaf baseball team
St. Olaf College head baseball coach Matt McDonald reached his 500th win with the team’s two-game sweep over Gustavus Adolphus College.
McDonald, who is also the director of athletics at St. Olaf, is among the winningest NCAA Division III coaches. He entered this season ranked 34th among active coaches in win percentage and 40th among active coaches in total number of victories.
Under McDonald, St. Olaf has won four Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles and three conference tournament championships.
McDonald has led the team to five NCAA appearances, four 30-win seasons, and 18 20-win seasons in his tenure. He has been named the MIAC coach of the year three times in his career.
