Norwegian King’s Guard Band and Drill Team performs at St. Olaf
Around 400 people gathered at St. Olaf College on Saturday, May 10, to attend a performance by His Majesty the King’s Guard Band and Drill Team of Norway. The visit marked a dual celebration: the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of organized Norwegian migration to the United States and the 150th anniversary of St. Olaf College, founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1874.
The event featured a 30-minute drill display in Tostrud Fieldhouse, showcasing the group’s signature blend of music, formation, and precision. The performance included a wind band, a drum-and-bugle corps, and a rifle drill platoon. It was followed by a bugle and woodwind band concert in Skoglund Auditorium and a reception with the guardsmen.
The King’s Guard Band and Drill Team, established in 1961, is known internationally for high-caliber performances and serves as a symbol of national pride in Norway.
