Oles unite to pack over 100,000 meals during Days of Service

St. Olaf College celebrated a milestone in service and community engagement April 21-22, as 491 students, faculty, staff, and alumni came together to pack 101,088 meals for those in need. The two-day effort commemorated the 150th anniversary of the college as part of the St. Olaf Days of Service.

The event was organized in partnership with Feed My Starving Children, a nonprofit that provides nutritious meals to children worldwide. According to coordinators, the meals packed are enough to feed 277 children for an entire year — underscoring the college’s mission of service and collective action.

Enthusiastic participants from all corners of campus filled the Lion’s Pause in Buntrock Commons in rotating two-hour shifts over a couple of days. Tables were filled with volunteers working in assembly-line fashion, measuring ingredients, sealing bags, and boxing meals bound for communities experiencing food insecurity around the globe.

The Days of Service were co-sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA), Alumni and Parent Relations, Bon Appétit, and the Sesquicentennial Committee. It was just one component of the broader Week of Service, which also included alumni-led projects across Minnesota, Illinois, Washington, and California.

The success of the event exemplified the St.Olaf spirit — marking a historic milestone not just with celebration, but with meaningful impact.
