St. Olaf celebrates academic excellence with Honors Day

St. Olaf College held its annual Honors Day on Friday, May 7, a celebration of student academic accomplishments, a time to express gratitude for faculty members, and a moment to say “thank you” to alumni and friends of the college who provide scholarships.

This year’s celebration was virtual, but President David R. Anderson ’74 noted that it was just as meaningful. “The COVID pandemic has made it unwise for us to gather, but it won’t stop us from honoring, celebrating, and thanking with open hearts and grateful voices,” he told viewers.

Provost and Dean of the College Marci Sortor opened the convocation by congratulating students named to the dean’s list and academic honor societies, as well as those who had received special honors including Fulbright fellowships, Critical Language Scholarships, Rossing Physics Scholarships, and Gilman Scholarships.

St. Olaf Professor of Physics Amy Kolan delivered an Honors Day address titled The Joys of Scholarship.
