Paola Torres-Bermudez ’27 has been selected to be a Phillips Scholar, a one-year leadership development program that provides students the opportunity to create, collaborate on, and complete a summer project focusing on a specific community issue.

Ten students from 15 eligible Minnesota private colleges and universities are selected each year. Scholars receive more than $9,000 in scholarships and stipends. Since 2009, six Oles have been named Phillips Scholars.

Torres-Bermundez, a Northfield native, aims to build a program that will help local high schoolers prepare for applying for jobs and college.

“Some of my peers never had the opportunity to learn how to write a resume or apply for college,” says Torres-Bermundez. “I want to help change that.”
