St. Olaf welcomes the Class of 2028
This fall St. Olaf welcomed an exceptional group of 860 first-year students to the Hill.
“Coming from more than 500 high schools across 40 states and 66 countries, the Class of 2028 is smart, talented, caring, engaged, passionate, and adventurous,” says Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Chris George ’94. “I’m excited that they are looking forward to engaging with the St. Olaf community and embracing campus traditions like Friday Flowers, St. Olaf Cookies, Christmas Festival, and sledding down Old Main Hill. They are Oles!”
More than one in five members of the Class of 2028 are the first of their family to attend college, and the class includes 22 percent domestic students of color and 13 percent international students.
During move-in weekend, the newest members of the campus community and their families attended a special St. Olaf welcome ceremony featuring introductions and remarks from college leaders.
In their first week on campus, these Oles also participated in a wide variety of orientation activities, got to know new friends and faculty members, and met St. Olaf President Susan Rundell Singer while signing their name in the college book. They attended the First Lecture for the Class of 2028 — a talk titled The Surprise of Why, or How to Stumble Forward with Clumsy Questions by Associate Professor of Religion and Department Chair of Race, Ethnic, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Anthony Bateza — and joined the campus community for Opening Convocation.
We are thrilled to have these newest Oles on the Hill. Welcome, Class of 2028!
