A story in the Star Tribune notes that a self-described “prof rock” band comprised of faculty members from St. Olaf College and neighboring Carleton College is “one of these new crops of local acts that are embracing Americana music in a contemporary, cool way.”

The four members of The Counterfactuals — St. Olaf Assistant Professor of Philosophy Mike Fuerstein and Carleton Assistant Professors of Philosophy Daniel Groll and Jason Decker and Assistant Professor of Music Andy Flory — recently released their debut album.

Minnesota Public Radio’s 89.3 The Current chose a track from the album as its Song of the Day and called it “must-hear music.”

“If anyone can make intelligent indie rock, it should be these guys,” notes the Daily Album. “And with Minimally Decent People, they prove that they are ready, willing, and able.”
