Voices of Equity on the Hill: The work at St. Olaf moving forward

Members of the St. Olaf College community gathered virtually on Thursday, February 25, for a new Voices of Equity on the Hill conversation featuring Interim Vice President for Equity and Inclusion María Pabón and Vice President for Student Life Hassel Morrison.

Pabón, the director of the Taylor Center for Equity and Inclusion at St. Olaf, will lead the college’s work toward becoming a more inclusive community in the coming months. She will serve on the President’s Leadership Team and the Bias Response Team, as well as assume leadership of the Council on Equity and Inclusion.

She sat down for a conversation with Morrison about diversity, equity, and inclusion work at the college as part of Voices of Equity on the Hill, a series of Zoom discussions launched last fall. Pabón says she’s looking forward to continuing the conversation series.

“This is an opportunity for us to continue to create community and for us to become a more intentional part of the fabric of St. Olaf,” Pabón says, noting that she’s looking forward to serving as Interim Vice President for Equity and Inclusion. “What I can promise is that I will keep doing this work how I’ve been doing it: with integrity, with transparency, and keeping our community in the center of it. I’ll do everything in power to do well by you and to do the best that I can. Please reach out if you have ideas or want to support or engage in the work.”
