SSSD 25-26 New Student Orientation
This year, SSSD New Student Orientation will be held from August 25-29. Students will move into their academic year dorm rooms the morning of August 25 with SSSD specific orientation programming throughout the week until general all campus new student orientation begins on August 30.
Goals of New Student Orientation
Throughout New Student Orientation (NSO) students will participate in a number of social activities, resource sessions, informational workshops, and other interactive large and small group activities focused on acclimatizing incoming SSSD students to St. Olaf as well as starting their year off with an already organized supportive community. Sessions will be led by SSSD staff, SSSD student staff, campus partners, and outside experts.
SSSD Fall Course
As part of the First-Year SSSD experience, students are collectively enrolled in a 0.25 credit course for the fall semester. This course introduces essential skills for academic and personal success for first year students participating in TRIO SSSD. Students develop tools and explore resources to navigate their unique college transition needs. Students learn and practice techniques to unlock potential so that they adapt to their surroundings and overcome personal and academic barriers to success. Topic for this course include but are not limited to: time management, organization, study skills, note taking, self-care, managing flare-ups, and self-advocacy.
Frequently Asked Questions about SSSD New Student Orientation
Is there a cost associated with SSSD New Student Orientation(NSO)?
There is no extra cost associated with SSSD New Student Orientation. Student’s room and board will be covered by SSSD from move in until when all campus New Student Orientation begins.
Will students move into their fall assigned room?
Yes, students will move in to their assigned space for the academic year.
Will there be sessions for parents/guardians?
There will be a session for parents/guardians of SSSD students on SSSD Move In day, all other sessions are just for SSSD students.
Will students be able to go home or leave campus during SSSD NSO?
We encourage students to stay on campus throughout the SSSD and All Campus New Student Orientation Experience
What does the All Campus New Student Orientation schedule look like after SSSD NSO?
The all campus New Student Orientation lasts from all campus move in day to the first day of classes. See link above for schedule.
