Meeting with the Grey Shirts group
Yesterday President Anderson and I met with some members of the Grey Shirts group. We had a productive dialogue, asked each other questions, shared ideas, and charted a path forward. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the group’s concerns, and gain a better understanding of each other’s perspectives.
During the meeting we learned that we share many common goals. Everyone wants what is best for St. Olaf and St. Olaf students and we are committed to aligning our efforts going forward.
We all are confident in and optimistic about the Working Group and agree that it should continue to do its work as transparently as possible. President Anderson confirmed his commitment to the process and making any needed changes to St. Olaf’s Title IX policies before the next school year begins.
The Working Group is meeting again tomorrow night and will hear from more students — both complainants and respondents — who have participated in St. Olaf’s Title IX process.
We will continue to listen to and learn from everyone who wants to help shape these important policies.
