Student Support Services program receives $90,000 grant
August 19, 2013
St. Olaf College’s TRiO Student Support Services program recently received a $90,000 College Success grant.
The grant, awarded by the Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation, will support the program’s Student Success Plan. The initiative provides 170 low-income and first generation St. Olaf students with intrusive advising, workshops, financial support to purchase textbooks, and access to the Student Support Services lending library.
“The goal of the Student Success Plan is to increase the retention, graduation, and academic success of participants,” says Student Support Services Director Kathy Glampe ’92. “We strive to provide the services needed for students to be successful in the rigorous St. Olaf environment.”
St. Olaf is one of 28 organizations to receive some of the $4.5 million in College Success grant funds awarded by Great Lakes. The grants are given to programs that help undergraduate students overcome obstacles that prevent them from completing college.
