Software and technology that is intended to be used by more than one person should undergo an accessibility review to ensure all users are able to access and make the most use of these tools.

In accordance with the college policy on Accessibility and Technology, the following purchasing policies and procedures were drafted in 2018 to ensure appropriate measures are taken to confirm that all information and technology purchases are ADA compliant prior to purchase.

Disability and Access staff are dedicated to ensuring equal access to educational opportunities, and the equity and inclusion of all students with disabilities at St. Olaf College. DAC serves over 900 Oles who have temporary or permanent physical, learning, sensory, chronic health, or psychological disabilities. Students partner with our Access Specialists to determine and establish any necessary accommodations, and receive information on other academic services available, or referrals to other resources on campus. Disability and Access is located in the Academic Success Center in Tomson Hall 153.

St. Olaf College is committed to hosting events that meet ADA accessibility requirements. Our public facilities are all ADA compliant, and our live-streamed events include closed captions. Furthermore, our Camps, Conferences and Events office consults with groups hosting events to determine if any additional accommodations are required.

The Student Life Accessibility Group (stulife_access@stolaf.edu) ensures that students with disabilities who live in campus housing receive reasonable accommodations that support their housing, dining, and parking needs.

Students must first submit an application for accommodations through Disability and Access Services. A Disability and Access Specialist will reach out to discuss possible accommodations. They will then work with the Student Life Accessibility Group to fulfill any approved accommodations.

Traveling with a disability can pose unique opportunities and challenges.  The Smith Center for Global Engagement staff can work with students with disabilities as they prepare for their time off-campus – academically and personally.  Know that there are many resources for you on and off campus as you prepare for, attend, and return from your program off campus.  Students can receive accommodations during off-campus study, but options may be different or more limited than they are at St. Olaf.

If you are thinking about or planning to study off campus – and you already receive accommodations through the Disability and Access Office – please meet with your Access Specialist to determine any accommodation needs specific to your off-campus study program.

The Center for Innovation in the Liberal Arts (CILA) provides support for St. Olaf College faculty as they develop pedagogies responsive to cultural, institutional, and technological change.

As part of this, CILA maintains a collection of resources focused on Equity and Inclusion in teaching, which includes recommendations for creating accessible classrooms and content.
