Jason DeRose, Western Bureau Chief for NPR News, traveled to Uganda in January and February 2014 as part of a journalism exchange fellowship with the International Center for Journalists. While in Kampala, he worked with the Uganda Media Women’s Association and taught radio workshops at Mama FM, a radio station that engages and empowers women and girls in developing communities. He also reported a story about how Uganda’s recently-passed anti-homosexuality law is affecting a small, gay-friendly congregation in Kampala.
