Larry Rasmussen ’61

Larry Rasmussen’s Earth-Honoring Faith: Religious Ethics in a New Key (Oxford University Press) has received the Nautilus Book Awards 2014 Gold Prize in the category Ecology/Environment, as well as the Grand Prize for the best book across all 27 categories. The book is dedicated to St. Olaf College, the United Church of Santa Fe, and GreenFaith, for “exemplary leadership in creation awareness and care.”

Rasmussen is a 1961 alumnus. He was a member of the Religion Department and Paracollege faculty from 1969-72, and served on the Board of Regents from 2001-2013. He was also a Visiting Professor of Environmental Studies during Interim of 2008.

Both academic and general interest books are considered for the annual Nautilus awards, as are works in poetry and photography.  A three-tier review process is used, with Silver, Gold, and Grand Prizes selected from books that make it to the third round.  Because a rating system is used, there may be multiple winners for Silver and Gold in each subject category. Only one Grand Prize is chosen, however.
