Orvis Fitts ’42

42_OrvisFitts_NThe following story was written about Orvis Fitts in his church newsletter:

“Our family moved to Overland Park, Kan. In 1966, and we joined Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church that year. My wife, Lee, sang in the choir for 32 years, was president of the Women’s Association, organized and supervised both a women’s and couple’s bridge playing groups, and served as an Elder. I have served as a Deacon, and as the Historian organized the Church Historical Archives. Our children attended Sunday School and grew up in the church. Both daughters, Barbara and Allison, were married in the church.

Lee and I made vacation trips to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, and other places in the United States. At times we took our children and their spouses. For many years, we attended my Navy Blue Raider Squadron annual reunions. I worked part-time for E. F. Hulton, a brokerage firm, for over three years. Also, I served as president for the local chapter of the Retired Officers Association, the Civil War Round Table, and the Westport Historical Society.

I married Leta Yourd, a school teacher, in 1948. She died Feb. 7, 2012, after 63 years of our marriage. I still miss her. Our children are Gregory Orvis and his wife Barbara, Barbara Lee, and Allison Rae and her husband, Nicholas. I have six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.”
