CILA Keynote Address: "A Pedagogy of Kindness: Teaching, Engaging, and Thriving in Higher Ed"

October 31 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Free
The Center for Innovation in the Liberal Arts (CILA) will host a keynote address by Professor of American History and Director of the Bright Institute at Knox College Cate Denial titled “A Pedagogy of Kindness: Teaching, Engaging, and Thriving in Higher Ed.”

All St. Olaf faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend the event on Thursday, October 31, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Viking Theater.

In her talk, Denial will argue that academia needs to get relentlessly kind, a practice that has nothing to do with simply “being nice.”  Kindness requires a commitment to justice be front and center in our teaching in order for us to co-create incredible learning opportunities with our students.

After the event, Denial will sign copies of her book, A Pedagogy of Kindness, and cake will be served.

*Faculty and staff who attend this CILA event will receive a link to the recording of the Post-Board Town Hall meeting that is being held at the same time.*
