A second opportunity for summer research involves developing sensitive and selective forensic science methods for the analysis of date rape drugs (including rohypnol, GHB and extacy) in beverage residues, using mass spectrometry. These residues may be the final few drops of liquid in the bottom of a glass, or the dried remains of these drops. This project will use the LC-MS to attempt to identify and quantitate different drug residues from a variety of beverage samples. Statistical analysis of the resulting data will be performed in order to determine the smallest amount of drug we can accurately detect.
