Students pursuing an Individual Major have a team of faculty and staff partners supporting them throughout the process as they build and complete their unique course of study.
Faculty Advisor Key Responsibilities
- Help refine the course of study and finalize the Individual Major Proposal.
- Participate in Final Review Consultation meeting with program advisors, and provide official major approval.
- Check in regularly as student completes their course of study, and advise as needed
- Serve as instructor of record for IM 391 and/or IM 392 during senior year, and help student structure this integrative Capstone Project.
- Attend student’s Public Presentation.
WHY ADVISE AN INDIVIDUAL MAJOR?
Work closely over several semesters with highly motivated students interested in your particular expertise.
Expand on your own research or learn about issues or topic areas new to you.
Watch students grow intellectually and take ownership of their educational goals and development.
Help the college stay at the forefront of student interests by being part of the “incubator” that can lead to new majors and concentrations.
Ken Bonde Award Nominations
Advisors can nominate a student for the Bonde Award, which recognizes extraordinary intellectual or artistic work, exemplary integration of study and experience, and/or impact on the campus or other communities. Nominations should be submitted April 30. To learn more about the award, click here.
