Canon Rebel SL1

A lightweight, powerful and versatile camera. Takes high-quality photos and is not difficult to use, but is still very well-equipped.

Comes with the camera, battery/charger, lens cap, and strap. Pair with Rode on-camera mic.

  1. Set up:
    1. Ensure the battery is in place and charged.
    2. Insert an SD card.
    3. Choose either Auto Focus or Manual Focus (AF vs MF) on the side of the lens.
  2. Turn the camera to on using the power switch next to the Mode Dial on the top of the camera. Slide the switch to ON for photos or to the video camera to record video.
  3. Use button to the right of viewfinder to toggle between using the screen and viewfinder to preview image.
  4. Choosing a setting from the Mode Dial:
    1. Basic modes utilize presets for a given type of shot (from the green icon going counter-clockwise): scene intelligent auto, flash off, creative auto, portrait, landscape, close-up, sports, and special scene (includes kids, food, candlelight, night portrait, handheld night scene, and backlight).
      1. To switch between special scene modes, use the touchscreen to press the Q in the upper right hand corner (if sighting through screen) or in the lower left hand corner (if using viewfinder).
    2. Creative modes allow for manual adjustment of certain settings (from M going counter-clockwise): manual, aperture priority, shutter priority, program.
  5. Adjusting Settings:
    1. Press the menu button to the left of the viewfinder.
    2. Use the arrow keys to navigate the menus.
  6. Playback:
    1. Use the play button next to the bottom right hand corner of the screen to view photos.
  7. Getting photos off the camera:
    1. Retrieve the SD card and insert it into your computer to download images.
    2. Alternatively, connect the camera to the computer via a USB cable and switch into playback mode.
