French Program, Department of Romance Languages
A major in French extends students’ liberal arts education and multicultural competence by studying Francophone cultures, civilizations, and literature. In their studies, students develop and enhance their oral communication skills, written language skills, analytical thinking, and familiarity with diverse perspectives which are sought by employers and graduate schools today.

January Term & Semester Study Abroad
The department of Romance Languages encourages its students to spend at least a January Term, preferably a semester or year, studying in France or in a francophone area.

Major Courses
In courses for the major, students refine their oral and written French, gain intercultural competence, and develop analytical skills through the study of Francophone contemporary cultures, civilizations, and literature.
