Accessibility Website

The Problem

Information regarding technology accessibility is scattered across the college website, when and where it exists at all. Individuals with accessibility issues already face challenges, and the lack of a singular place to look for help adds to those challenges.  In 2017, LITS formed an accessibility task force to review the current accessibility issues in technology and library resources and to propose recommendations to address these. One outcome has been the development of a framework of a website for technology accessibility issues – a centralized resource for users to get information and tools to address accessibility in their work and teaching.

Goals

Our goal is to create a centralized source of information regarding technology accessibility issues, help, and guidance that the St. Olaf community can use.

Actions Taken

Continue work on the centralized website started in 2017 that will act as a central hub of information for accessibility in technology. It will include policies and guidelines, instructions for content creators and instructors, and other resources. We will also work with other offices, such as CAAS, HR, and the Taylor Center, to make sure information is consistent with other publishing documents, as well as provide links to their sites and resources.

Accomplishments so Far

1. The task force has compiled policies and new technology accessibility reviews and begun work on the shell of this site. The site is available for preliminary review at https://wp.stolaf.edu/accessibility
