Here we see no leaves left on the trees. Someone or thing has walked over the frozen river. On my camera most of the animals that I saw were racoons, deer, foxes and people’s dogs. The Sun is also much lower in the sky than in the previous weekends. The snow is smooth and soft looking. As temperatures fluctuate over the season, some of the snow will melt and then refreeze, which creates the smoother look of older snow. This sublimation and evaporation from snow creates pockets of space near the ground, providing space where some animals live! This entire area–known as the subnivean layer–is home to a variety of mammals, and even some insects!
