MPR, Star Tribune note St. Olaf Choir’s weekend performance
“If the 45th season opening concert of VocalEssence isn’t in your plans this weekend, it should be,” Daniel Zillmann ’00 tells listeners of Minnesota Public Radio’s Art Hounds program.
The St. Olaf Choir and St. Olaf Professor of Music Dan Dressen will join forces with VocalEssence and the Northfield Youth Choirs this Sunday to deliver the U.S. premiere of British composer Jonathan Dove’s “There Was a Child.” Zillmann, the communications manager at the Minnesota Opera, highlights the upcoming event as part of MPR’s weekly feature on what’s happening in the Minnesota arts scene.
A piece in the Star Tribune’s “The Big Gigs” column notes that the concert will also feature a piece by St. Olaf Choir founder F. Melius Christiansen.
The concert, led by VocalEssence artistic director and former member of the St. Olaf Board of Regents Philip Brunelle, will be held at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
