St. Olaf kicks off the academic year with Opening Convocation
St. Olaf College ushered in a new academic year on Thursday, September 9, with its annual Opening Convocation in Boe Memorial Chapel.
After last year’s Opening Convocation was held virtually due to the pandemic, community members rejoiced at the opportunity to celebrate the beginning of this year by gathering together in person. Faculty processed in academic regalia, and Student Government Association President Andy Nelson ’23 welcomed the congregation. Harold Ditmanson Distinguished Professor of Religion DeAne Lagerquist then delivered an Opening Convocation address titled “There is Only One Question.”
“There are times when ceremony matters, and this is one of them,” President David R. Anderson ’74 told the St. Olaf community gathered for Opening Convocation.
