How to Apply
- Investigate programs. Attend the Smith Center Study Abroad/Away Fair during the fall semester (usually late October/early November). Find the exact date and time by visiting our Smith Center Calendar.
- If applicable, attend Interest Meetings.
- Make an appointment with a Smith Center Advisor to learn more about study abroad/away summer programs.
- Talk with your academic advisor to learn more about how specific program(s) will fit your academic interests, needs and requirements.
- If you are an international student, discuss your plans and verify your eligibility with the Taylor Center.
- Complete the program’s application on the program provider’s website.
- All pieces of the on-line application must be completed by the deadlines listed on the program’s webpage.
- Upon acceptance by the program provider the Smith Center will be notified.
- The Smith Center will email you with a link to complete the online St. Olaf application requirements.
- Work with the St. Olaf Registrar’s Office to ensure credit(s) transfers.
- Follow all post acceptance and pre departure instructions from your program provider. The program provider will contact you to register for courses and housing. They will also support you in the visa process (if necessary).
- You are responsible for any costs associated with the program provider (i.e. housing, program fee, visa costs, tuition, etc.) and will be billed directly by the program provider. You will not pay St. Olaf tuition. Scholarships awarded by St. Olaf’s Financial Aid Office will be issued directly to the program provider.
- Attend your program provider’s pre-departure orientation(s).
- Participate in your program.
All students are automatically considered for a need-based scholarship (see J-Term column) of up to 50% of program costs from the St. Olaf Financial Aid Office.
NOTE: St. Olaf cannot provide additional funds beyond the noted amount in the Scholarship Framework under J-Term.
