The Sophomore Experience is guided by five focus areas, all derived directly from feedback from St. Olaf sophomores.

Advancing Academic Success
Sophomore year is an exciting time academically. Students declare their major, possibly study off-campus, engage in undergraduate research, and begin to dive deeper into coursework that ties to their academic pursuits. These opportunities are bolstered by your academic support resources to help you achieve your goals at St. Olaf.
Deepening Co-Curricular Involvement
Students shared that their out-of-the-classroom involvement means a lot to them and we couldn’t agree more. Whether through participation or a leadership role in student organizations, SGA, music ensembles, or athletic teams, sophomores want more from their activities and we are here to help.
Expanding Campus Community
St. Olaf is known for its vibrant community and sophomore students want to experience it to its fullest potential. Whether making new friendships with their peers or developing meaningful mentorship connections with staff, faculty, and alumni, sophomore year is a great time to expand the St. Olaf network both on and off the Hill.
Exploring Future Opportunities
Sophomore students have their future on their minds. With an increased interest in connecting their academic and co-curricular involvements to meaningful next steps, the Sophomore Experience aids students in starting to think about what internships, careers, graduate programs, and other future opportunities may be on the horizon.
Investing in Yourself
Before scholars and leaders, Oles are people, and sophomore students recognize a need to take time to invest in their wellbeing. The Sophomore Experience centers on wellness holistically, encouraging students to think about and act on their physical, mental, spiritual, and financial well-being in meaningful ways.
