Purpose of Procedures:
To ensure tuition, room, and board are refunded appropriately to the student’s account in the event of a withdrawal from St. Olaf College.
Who needs to know these Procedures:
All St. Olaf College students.
Procedures:
Students must notify the Dean of Students Office regarding any withdrawal from St. Olaf. The Dean of Students Office will then contact the appropriate offices.
If the student withdraws by the 2nd day of class, a 100% refund will be given.
- Summer Session 1 deadline for 100% refund = Tuesday, June 3, 2025
- Summer Session 2 deadline for 100% refund = Tuesday, July 15, 2025
If the student withdraws by the 4th day of class, an 80% refund will be given.
- Summer Session 1 deadline for 80% refund = Thursday, June 5, 2025
- Summer Session 2 deadline for 80% refund = Thursday, July 17, 2025
If the student withdraws by the 8th day of class, a 40% refund will be given.
- Summer Session 1 deadline for 40% refund = Wednesday, June 11, 2025
- Summer Session 2 deadline for 40% refund = Wednesday, July 23, 2025
*There are no refunds for summer meal plans.
Academic Year 2025-2026
Tuition-Full Withdrawal or Drop
Students the last date of attendance is used to calculate refund.
- If the student withdraws before the first day of class, tuition will be refunded 100%.
- Fall deadline for 100% refund = Thursday, September 4, 2025
- Spring deadline for 100% refund = Thursday, February 5, 2026
- If the student withdraws by the end of 10th day, tuition will be refunded at 80%.
- Fall deadline for 80% refund = Wednesday, September 17, 2025
- Spring deadline for 80% refund = Wednesday, February 18, 2026
- If the student withdraws within two weeks after 10thday, tuition will be refunded 40%.
- Fall deadline for 40% refund = Wednesday, October 1, 2025
- Spring deadline for 40% refund = Wednesday, March 4, 2026
Partial Drop
If a student drops from full-time to part-time before 10th day, their billing will be changed from full-time to part-time. Student’s aid is adjusted to reflect enrollment in part-time.
If a student drops from full-time to part-time after the 10th date, there will be no change to tuition charges as well as no change to Olaf or state aid. Check with the financial aid office on if there will be any changes to federal aid.
- If the student withdraws before the first day of class, room charges will be refunded 100%.
- Fall deadline for 100% refund = Thursday, September 4, 2025
- Spring deadline for 100% refund = Thursday, February 5, 2026
- If the student withdraws from the college after the dates above the student will not receive any refund for the room.
Board
Students last day on campus is used to calculate refund.
- If the student withdraws before the first day of class, board charges will be refunded 100%.
- Fall deadline for 100% refund = Thursday, September 4, 2025
- Spring deadline for 100% refund = Thursday, February 5, 2026
- If the student withdraws within the first 3 weeks of the term, board charges will be refunded at 80%.
- Fall deadline for 80% refund = Thursday, September 25, 2025
- Spring deadline for 80% refund = Thursday, February 26, 2026
- If the student withdraws within the first 6 weeks of the term, board will be refunded 60%.
- Fall deadline for 60% refund = Thursday, October 16, 2025
- Spring deadline for 60% refund = Thursday, March 19, 2026
- If the student withdraws within the first 9 weeks of the term, board will be refunded 40%.
- Fall deadline for 40% refund = Thursday, November 6, 2025
- Spring deadline for 40% refund = Thursday, April 9, 2026
- If the student withdraws within the first 12 weeks of the term, board will be refunded 20%.
- Fall deadline for 20% refund = Thursday, November 27, 2025
- Spring deadline for 20% refund = Thursday, April 30, 2026
If a student drops from Overload to full-time before the first day of class, they will receive a full overload tuition refund and will be charged the full-time rate.
If a student drops from Overload to full-time after the start of the term but before 10th date, they will receive a full overload tuition refund and will be charged the full-time rate.
If a student drops from Overload to full-time after the 10th date, there will be no change to tuition charges or to federal, state, and institutional aid.
There is no cost to the student for tuition, housing, or board plans if they are here for one full term in addition to January Term. Thus there will be no refund if the student does not participate in January Term.

- If the student withdraws within two weeks after 10thday, tuition will be refunded 40%.

- Spring deadline for 40% refund = Wednesday, March 5, 2025
- If the student withdraws before the first day of class, room charges will be refunded 100%.

- Spring deadline for 100% refund = Thursday, February 6, 2025
- If the student withdraws from the college after the dates above the student will not receive any refund for the room.

- If the student withdraws within the first 9 weeks of the term, board will be refunded 40%.

- If the student withdraws within the first 12 weeks of the term, board will be refunded 20%.
- Fall deadline for 20% refund = Thursday, November 28, 2024
- Spring deadline for 20% refund = Thursday, May 1, 2025
- There are no refunds for summer meal plans.
