World Languages Center

The World Languages Center (WLC) serves the following language departments: Asian Studies, Classics, French, German, Norwegian, Russian, and Spanish.  We provide computer programs for the following languages: Arabic, Czech, Danish, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Polish, Serbian, Swahili, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese, etc.

The WLC offers a variety of facilities. Our “hybrid” Computer Lab serves as an interactive room with 16 desktop computers and headsets as well as additional 15 rearrangeable work stations.  Here students can learn foreign languages in an individual and/or group setting. The WLC Viewing Lounge offers students the possibility to check out and watch foreign language-specific materials. The Group Study Rooms are equipped with 16 laptops for independent and group work.  The WLC also offers iPads that are equipped with selected apps for foreign language learning. Four tutorial rooms and an exam room are available to students who seek help outside the classroom for their foreign language needs. The WLC houses tutoring sessions in Chinese, German, Norwegian, Spanish, and Japanese, Italian and Danish.

As of Fall 2016 we have added an Audio / Video Recording Studio available for individual or small group projects.  Our production studio provides help with any audio/video projects in or outside of the classroom. For more information click on the Rooms link.

All rooms are available by reservation.  Please check our reservation listings.

In the academic year 2017 – 2018 the WLC will continue coordinating the Guided Independent Language Enrichment Program (GILE). This program offers a 10 week non-credit tutorial program in Danish and Italian. For more information contact the WLC Director at mcwr@stolaf.edu or gile@stolaf.edu.
