Much civic engagement work is comprised of non-partisan efforts. When working on community issues, however, it is easy to fall into the practice of privileging our political identities and beliefs. We often collaborate with community members and groups that have different political identities than our own, so it is helpful that we do not privilege our own political identities over those of others in order to build relationships and trust with one another. When we work together, we can achieve more than working individually. Therefore, connecting with community members with different political identities is crucial in ACE work.
