In ACE courses and community-building practices, we often interact with community members with different worldviews or religions than our own. Many faiths and worldviews include vital components that motivate people to serve their neighbors, bringing communities together in service to and solidarity with each other. Our worldviews and beliefs can shape how we interact with our peers and communities different and similar to us. Therefore, it is important not to privilege particular worldviews or religions over others but rather research the worldviews and faith of the community members we are engaging with to understand how best to work with them and respect our community members and their worldviews. In addition, researching worldviews and religions that are different from ours is essential not to reinforce stereotypes and cause harm to our community members through micro and macroaggressions.
