Program Objectives and Intended Outcomes
The TRiO McNair Scholars Program is a graduate school preparatory program funded by the U.S. Department of Education and sponsored by St. Olaf College. Its purpose is to increase the rate of doctoral program applications, degree attainment and participation in the professoriate by first -generation college students who are underrepresented in graduate programs.
McNair Scholars Program participants will accomplish the following:
- 89% of participants will complete research and scholarly activities that will directly impact their educational progression each McNair Program academic year.
- 78% of new participants served in each McNair Program academic year will attain a baccalaureate degree within three (3) years.
- 44% of bachelor degree recipients will enroll in a postbaccalaureate program by the fall term of the academic year immediately following completion of that degree.
- 11% of participants will attain a doctoral degree within ten (10) years of the attainment of the bachelor’s degree.
