Project Description
The Ancient Texts, Modern Approaches project sought to enrich teaching of the Bible at St. Olaf College by exploring the use of screencasts and online quizzes to help non-specialists teach with greater ease and effectiveness. The screencasts incorporate material that is difficult to obtain outside of expensive introductory textbooks that are increasingly omitted from required book lists.
The screencast format makes this often-dry material more accessible and engaging, and because it enables a “flipped classroom” approach, makes it possible to spend more class time in discussion and the sharing of diverse perspectives. The online quizzes give students immediate feedback regarding their grasp of the material, in a format that allows for clear and convenient assessment of the intended learning outcome.
