(the DHH project has now completed all proposal rounds)
DHH supports faculty-student collaborative work in the digital humanities as part of the St. Olaf Collaborative Undergraduate Research and Inquiry (CURI) program. The CURI program provides opportunities for St. Olaf students to gain an in-depth understanding of a particular subject through working closely with a St. Olaf faculty member in a research setting. CURI’s summer research program involves 80-90 students who work together with faculty on faculty research projects. Each year the project results are presented on research posters and in oral presentations during the final symposium in early August.
DHH-CURI Grants
- DHH will fund up to three faculty and three students engaged in digital humanities work as part of the CURI program for mentored undergraduate research during summer 2017.
- Faculty proposing digital humanities CURI projects should submit a CURI application and follow all CURI guidelines, criteria, and deadlines. The CURI application form provides an opportunity for you to indicate that your project is aligned with “Digital Humanities on the Hill Mellon Grant,” so remember to check that box.
- The deadline for faculty proposals to CURI for Summer 2017 will be early December, 2016, date TBA on the CURI site.
To be eligible, you must:
- Meet all the DHH project eligibility requirements.
- Attend one of the Incubator sessions on October 21, 2016 or, if unable to attend, contact the DH Team (dh@stolaf.edu) to schedule a consultation.
To apply
Attend one of the DHH incubators.
- Incubators are informal, low-risk planning sessions that provide opportunities for 1) brainstorming ideas with colleagues and members of the DH team, and 2) small-group and individual consultation with DH team members to help shape your project/proposal.
- You’re welcome to attend any (and as many) DH Incubators you want–no matter where you are in the process of thinking about a project or developing a proposal for DHH funding. While much of the information and consulting provided is generally applicable, each Incubator is also geared toward its corresponding DHH grant.
- Incubator sessions for the 2017 DHH-CURI grants will be held on October 21, 2016 at 9:00 am, 10:45 am, 12:55 pm, and 3:15 pm. Members of the DHH Team will repeat the same programming at each session. Alternatively, you are welcome to attend one of the September 23rd incubators. Members of the DH Team will repeat the same programming at each session.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by mid-January, 2017.
Acceptance of a DHH-CURI Grant entails the following responsibilities:
- Arranging an individual pre-project consultation for Spring 2017 by contacting the DH Team (dh@stolaf.edu). This consultation will focus on first steps and project management.
- Meeting with a member of the DH Team on a regular basis (as determined in the pre-project consultation) during the CURI grant period.
- Participating in DHH/IT-sponsored events that showcase your work, and sharing this work with the campus community and beyond.
- Participating in a wrap-up interview at the end of the grant period.
- Submitting a final report to Dolores Peters, DHH Project Director (petersdo@stolaf.edu) by September 29, 2017, that includes
- a description of the work you did during the grant period,
- the final outcome of your work during the grant period,
- an indication of the next steps you’ll take on the project, and
- your plans for using and/or disseminating your work (e.g. a publication, a conference presentation, presenting your work on campus at a workshop, CILA lunch, or conference).
