(the DHH project has now completed all proposal rounds)
DHH January Grants are the first round of Digital Humanities on the Hill opportunities for the 2016-17 academic year. The grants are for work conducted on a digital humanities project during January 2017. Project duration may be between two and four weeks, for a stipend of up to $1400.
Priority consideration will be given to short, discrete projects, such as
- digital course assignments and in-class activities for existing courses,
- wrap-up from previous DHH projects,
- “next-step exploration” of on-going digital humanities projects,
- start-up preparation for future digital humanities projects (excluding initial identification/location of documents, data, images, etc.) that demonstrate feasibility/proof of concept.
To be eligible, you must
- meet all the DHH project eligibility requirements.
- attend one of one of four incubator sessions on Friday, September 23, 2016.
January Grant proposals were due by noon on October 7th, 2016. Download the application form.
Any questions should be addressed to dh@stolaf.edu
To apply
Attend one of the DHH incubator sessions.
- Incubators are informal, low-risk planning sessions that provide opportunities for 1) brainstorming ideas with colleagues and members of the DH team, and 2) small-group and individual consultation with DH team members to help shape your project/proposal.
- Incubator sessions for the January 2017 grants will be held on September 23, 2016 at 9:00 am, 10:45 am, 12:55 pm, and 3:15 pm. Members of the DH Team will repeat the same programming at each session.
Please sign up for your session at least 24 hours in advance at this link. Registration for these incubators closes at 5 pm on Thursday, September 22.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by late October, 2016.
Acceptance of a DHH January Grant offer entails the following responsibilities:
- Arranging a pre-project consultation to take place before 16 December, 2016 by contacting the DH Team (dh@stolaf.edu). This consultation will focus on first steps and project management.
- Meeting with a member of the DH Team on a regular basis (as determined in the pre-project consultation) during January.
- Participating in DHH/IT-sponsored events that showcase your work, and sharing this work with the campus community and beyond.
- Participating in a wrap-up interview at the end of the grant period.
- Submiting a final report to Dolores Peters, DHH Project Director (petersdo@stolaf.edu) by February 24, 2017, that includes
- a description of the work you did during the grant period,
- the final outcome of your work during the grant period,
- an indication of the next steps you’ll take on the project, and
- your plans for using and/or disseminating your work (e.g. a publication, a conference presentation, presenting your work on campus at a workshop, CILA lunch, or conference, using resulting materials in a course).
