[Faculty Handbook Category #2]
The daily class schedule for Fall Semester and Spring Semester is based on six 55‑minute periods on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (8:00 a.m. to 2:55 p.m.), on four 85‑minute periods on Tuesdays (8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.), and on four 80‑minute periods on Thursdays (8:00 a.m. to 3:35 p.m.). Classes typically meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, or on Tuesdays and Thursdays; some MWF courses have an additional class period on Tuesday and/or Thursday. Some quarter‑credit courses meet just twice a week for two 55‑minute periods. Labs in the sciences range in length from two to three hours and are scheduled at various times between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Courses may be offered on Monday and/or Thursday evenings with the approval of the Registrar; see “Evening Classes” in this Handbook. No courses may be scheduled during the Chapel period.
During Interim a typical class meets every day during one of three 2‑hour periods (8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.), but there are many exceptions, and the times and lengths of labs vary. No courses may be scheduled during the Chapel period. The total number of contact hours for an Interim course is expected to equal the total number of contact hours for a semester-long course.
Concerns and suggestions regarding the Daily Class Schedule should be sent to the Registrar or to the Curriculum Committee.
