The Emerging Musician Scholarship is intended to recognize and honor incoming students who have a strong musical voice and passion that is not represented in our other instrumental or vocal areas. Students who apply for this scholarship will submit samples, videos, or recordings of their work through a separate application to be reviewed by a panel of faculty, staff, and on-campus partners. The flexibility and freedom in this scholarship allows for open interpretation – you could be a sitar player, or an electronic musician. An emerging musician could be a Soundcloud creator, or the folk fiddler. The possibilities are endless. To us, you are emerging into the next phase of your musical growth – we want you to bring your talent and experience to St. Olaf College!
Students who submit the Emerging Musician Scholarship application understand that this is only for a scholarship, and does not include pre-admission to any music major. This is a renewable scholarship, renewed each year through on-campus involvement, an annual recording, sample, or performance of your work, and remaining a full-time student in good academic standing. Involvement in the first-year choral ensembles is highly encouraged.
The Emerging Musician Scholarship application will be available in September, and is due at the time of your Common Application (Early Decision 1 & Early Action: November 1, Early Decision 2 & Regular Decision: January 15). In addition to the application, you will need to submit two video samples of your music, which will be uploaded into the application itself.
