St. Olaf College | New Students

Week of July 11th, 2021

Hello, there!

Let’s get down to business and talk about what you will learn at St. Olaf, shall we? One of the best parts of the St. Olaf journey is the academic experience and the relationships that you will form with your professors along the way. Prior to arriving on campus, you will be paired with an academic advisor who will help you navigate possible majors and check in on class schedules throughout your four years on the Hill. Many students come to St. Olaf unsure of what they want to major in, and that is more than fine! Oles declare a major in the spring of their sophomore year, so if you are not quite there yet credit-wise, now is a wonderful time to explore different academic disciplines. Some of you are transferring in with a clear understanding of your major and we are excited for you to dive in!

Your academic advisor is not the only faculty or staff member that will help you navigate this path. During your four years at St. Olaf, you will get to know community members from all corners of campus who will help you learn, grow, and perhaps discover new interests and passions.

Peter McCrae-Hokenson ’19 who was a Fifth-Year Emerging Artist last year spent his time at St. Olaf exploring finance, photography, and front-end web development. Professor of Art and Art History John Saurer was there to support and guide him along the way.

“Throughout our relationship over the past two years he has continued to be that presence of a warm and thoughtful listener…all of this informed who I am now and who I want to be in the world.”
