St. Olaf College | New Students

Week of July 18th, 2021

Greetings!

We know you are all waiting with anticipation to find out your housing and roommate assignments. We promise the wait will be over soon. This is an exciting step towards building your St. Olaf community — from finding out your roommate(s) to the residence hall that will help shape your time on campus. We hope you take the time to relish in this excitement!

As you get excited about roommates and residence halls, it is also time to start thinking about moving to campus. Depending on your orientation experience, your move-in will look different:

For students taking part in New Student Orientation, your Move-In Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 4th. Some of you will move in before 9/4 (fall athletes, international Oles, SSS Bridge students, etc.), and that is okay! While you will have already physically moved into your residence hall, Move-In Day is still an energizing day for our whole campus community. In early August, you will receive an email with a link asking you to sign-up for a move-in time at your residence hall. This helps us manage traffic on campus so you and anyone who may be traveling with you can enjoy a smooth process. Move-in times on September 4th will be available from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. As you plan to move into your residence hall, we encourage you to review our “Preparing for Move-In Day” website. We’ll keep this page updated with all the information you need to feel ready to join us on the Hill.

If you happen to arrive in Northfield on Friday, September 3rd, you are welcome to stop by your residence hall from 1:30 to 3:00 PM to drop off your belongings in your room. While you are not able to unpack and set up your residence hall room at this time, this can be a great opportunity to ease into Move-In Day (and lighten the load a bit!).

For students taking part in New Student Orientation Transfer Track, you are welcome to arrive on campus on Sunday, September 5th or Monday, September 6th. You will have the opportunity to get settled into your residence hall room before your orientation begins on Monday evening. More information about move-in logistics for you will be shared in the coming weeks!

Moving into your new home on campus can bring a myriad of different feelings, all of which are perfectly normal. Our advice? Travel light and start planning now. Having helped Oles with the move-in process a few times before, we know that well-labeled boxes, sturdy shoes, and some advanced communication can go a long way.

We can’t wait to welcome you to the Hill!
