St. Olaf Policies

Guidelines covering Dean’s List, Distinction, Honors, Honors Day and Honors Societies for students, faculty, and departments.

The purpose of this policy is to set forth guidelines for the use, management, storage, and retrieval of wearable video/audio body worn camera (BWC) recording equipment and recordings. 

Guidelines for adding & dropping courses, Honor Code & plagiarism exceptions, late add & drop, changes in grading option selection, petitions for waivers, and appeals to the curriculum committee.

This policy describes expectations related to Conflict of Financial Interest Policy for Employees and applies to all faculty.

The St. Olaf College Employee Right-to-Know (RTK) Program ensures faculty and staff access to information and training about workplace chemical/physical hazards, fulfilling OSHA’s

Hazard Communication Standard, protecting employees by detailing hazard identification, SDS access, proper handling, protective measures, and clear labeling, coordinated by EHS to foster a safer campus through comprehensive training and continuous hazard assessment.

The Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) Program for St. Olaf College is designed to comply with the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030). The program aims to protect faculty, staff, and students from occupational exposure to human blood, blood components, and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM).

Guidelines for the conclusion of the academic term, time limits for in-person exams, student absence from final exams, student and family responsibility (regarding final exams), academic integrity, other means of final examinations, exceptions to taking in class final examinations at the scheduled block of time and place.

This policy describes expectations related to Garnishments and applies to all faculty.

Guidelines regarding students wishing to go up in catalog 

Rules covering grade reporting, graded and ungraded credits, grading and the marking system, grade benchmark achievement levels, GPA (Grade Point Average), grade points by course credit, grade changes, P/N (Pass/No Pass) changes, S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) grade option, S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) provisions for all students, and Incompletes.

The Dean of Students or their designee has the authority to impose an interim suspension or interim removal from college housing when a student’s presence poses a substantial and immediate threat or could disrupt normal college functions.

Policies governing leaves of absence, withdrawals from St. Olaf, administrative withdrawals, and returning to St. Olaf after an absence.

In a crisis, timely communication can save lives and reduce the risk of injury on campus. To offer the greatest protection to the community possible, on-duty public safety employees must be able and authorized to make campus-wide notifications when a threat to life and safety exists or is imminent.

Posthumous degrees provide St. Olaf College with an established avenue for recognizing the academic achievement of students who have completed all or nearly all of their degree requirements but died before graduating. The College may award a posthumous degree to students with senior classification, who are enrolled, or on an approved leave, and who have completed a significant amount of their coursework to warrant the academic award at the time of death. Requests must be approved by the Department Chair, the Associate Dean, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the College President.

To provide a degree to students who have or who have nearly completed their degree but who died before graduation.
