Override Instructions for Students
Please see instructional videos below.
An Override is an electronic process that you, the student, can perform to request to add a course in the following situations:
- You have not met the prerequisites or have met them in another way such as with transfer credits.
- The course is closed by the time your registration begins.
If you request an Override and it is approved by the instructor, it is not guaranteed that you will get into the course and it is still your responsibility to register for the course in the registration system. You may not request an Override due to capacity before registration begins.

Steps
- Log into SIS and click on Registration for the correct term on the left side. Search for your course. If a Prereqs Not Met or Course Full button appears next to the course, click the button to bring up the Override Request form. Reminder: Overrides due to capacity will only be considered after registration has begun and the course is full.
- Complete the form and click Request Override.
- The course instructor and/or Dept Chair/Program Director will receive your request. Please have patience as instructor hours vary greatly and you may not receive an immediate response. If it is approved, you will receive the following email. This is not a guarantee and does not mean you are automatically registered for the course. You must still register for the course in the registration system yourself. Your approved Override requests will appear in a green box within the registration system. Please note that if your prereq Override request was approved, it’s possible you will need to request another Override for capacity if the course is closed by the time your registration begins.
- If there are multiple sections of a course you might be interested in, you will need an approved Override for each section.
- If the request is denied, you will be notified by email. You will not be able to register for the course and will need to find an alternative.
