Update Your Website and Terminology

    Thank you for helping to update the St. Olaf website to make the change from International and Off-Campus Studies to the Smith Center for Global Engagement!  Review your St. Olaf site to update links, email addresses, and terminology.

    Terminology:

    Our terminology is changing, too! All St. Olaf sites should now refer to:

    • The Smith Center for Global Engagement (formerly International and Off-Campus Studies or IOS)
    • Study Abroad (international programs)
    • Study Away (U.S. programs)
    • Academic Civic Engagement or ACE (no change in terminology)
    Anywhere your site refers to International and Off-Campus Studies or IOS (the office) please use the Smith Center for Global Engagement or just the Smith Center (do not use SCGE).  Notes:
    • Use a capital T in “the” only when starting a sentence
    • Where the Smith Center is the subject or object in a sentence:
      • In formal contexts or with the first use on a web page, please use “the Smith Center for Global Engagement” (ex: Louis and Mary Kay Smith endowed the Smith Center for Global Engagement)
      • In informal contexts or after the full name has been shared, please use “the Smith Center.” (ex: Students can visit the Smith Center weekdays from 8-5)
    • Where the Smith Center is the adjective in a sentence, please use “Smith Center” (ex: Students can study abroad/away on over 100 Smith Center programs).

    Where the St. Olaf web site refers to international and off-campus studies – the activity or the programs – please use study abroad/away. (Ex: The Smith Center offers study abroad programs around the world and study away programs across the U.S.).
