General Information
The Dean of Students Office retains discipline records for all Level 2 and Level 3 violations for 7 years following a student’s graduation or withdrawal from St. Olaf. These violations are not eligible for expungement.
Level 1 Expungements
All Level 1 conduct violations will be removed from the records of St. Olaf graduates on August 1, following the conferral of their degree. For those to whom the degree is conferred in December, automatic Level 1 expungement will occur the following August.
Student Request for Early Expungement
Students found responsible for violations of the Code of Conduct may request the early expungement of a Level 1 conduct violation. In these cases, the record will be “expunged” concerning reporting external to the College, such as graduate schools and employers. Records will continue to exist for purposes internal to the College, such as off-campus study requests for records. Requests for early expungement are considered by the Dean of Students Office in June of each year. Grants of record expungement will be activated in July of each year.
The following criteria must be met to request an Early Expungement:
- The finding of responsibility was for a Level 1 (considered low level) violation of the Code of Conduct.
- The student has earned at least 17.75 St Olaf course credits.
- A total of two semesters have passed since the finding of responsibility for the case and there have been no additional findings of responsibility for violations since that time.
There are no pending disciplinary proceedings involving the student.
